Please keep in mind that paper requirements will vary among different professors. Students are encouraged to contact their professors directly when answers are needed for a specific assignment.

Below are are some general guidelines for papers written for the Bible/Theology Department.

Body Style

·         Must have a title page (use the title page on this handout as an example)

·         1” margins on all sides, including title page and work cited page

·         Double spaced lines

·         12 point font in the Times New Roman font style

·         All papers should be 8-10 pages in length unless otherwise specified by the instructor

·         Paper MUST be written in third person (paper written in 1^st person will result in a letter grade deduction)

·         Title should be centered on the first page and page numbers should be centered on the bottom

·         Grammar errors, misspelled words, and contractions will be significantly deducted from the overall grade

·         Do not use slang.

Work Cited

As a general rule, students need one source per typed page in a paper.
All cited sources should appear on the work cited page.
Do not cite something that was not used in the paper
If you quote, summarize, or paraphrase you must cite what source you pulled the information from using endnotes, footnotes, or text notes.
Quotes more than three lines should be single spaced and indented on both right and left margins
If internet sources are used, they should be from a credible site and author. Please be advised that the instructor will check all internet sources used.
Be advised that many professors limit the number of internet sources that may be used in a paper. Please check with your professor for those guidelines.
